Research conducted by City to Sea, released on May 7th, 2025, has revealed that 72% of UK consumers want to see more reusable, refillable and returnable options available when it comes to product choices - something that we strongly agree with, given the significant impact that single-use plastics can have on the environment, as well as human and animal health.

City and Sea's survey involved 2,004 UK adults, with 46% calling for a nationwide ban on items such as plastic-wrapped fruit, vegetables and water bottles as well as all single-use plastic bags. 58% of those asked have made changes to their purchasing habits, endeavouring to cut pack on single-use packaged products, as well as single-use products over the last 12 months.

To add to this, 52% of those surveyed reported confusion when it came to the language used to describe sustainable initiatives, options and alternatives. Something that is likely influenced by the number of products and brands who engage in greenwashing in order to influence consumer decision making, using buzzwords to create a false narrative around the sustainable benefits that a product can offer.
